ONY, Inc. of Amherst, New York is the owner of Infasurf® (calfactant), a lung surfactant developed and tested by academic scientists in Ontario and New York in the 1970s and 1980s. Only Infasurf among lung surfactants available in the United States is derived from natural surfactant not a lung tissue mince as is the case with other surfactants. This fact gives Infasurf® its unique composition and characteristics. Since its commercialization in 1999, Infasurf® was marketed by Forest Laboratories under a license from ONY but in 2009, ONY assumed responsibility for all commercialization, distribution and customer interface for the product.
Today, the ONY field force is staffed by individuals with experience as neonatal intensive care health care professionals who are responsible for communicating with clinicians. The field force is supported by surfactant scientists with extensive knowledge and experience in all areas of lung surfactant to assure that the information they convey is backed by solid scientific evidence.
To newborn patients our mission is to produce the most potent and most rugged lung surfactant possible to assist in preventing and treating Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS.)
To physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and pharmacists who are responsible for providing the optimal respiratory care for newborn patients our mission is to communicate all the valid scientific evidence available about lung surfactant therapy.
